Rangi joined the company in 1982 and worked on irrigation, roading and mining projects for 12 years, then in 1994 he managed mining projects in the Huntly coalfields prior to appointment as Earthworks then Contract Manager of the $7M State Highway 1 project Maungaiti Hill Realignment near Tokoroa.

This was followed with project management of the Waste Management Redvale landfill construction contract north of Auckland from 1997 to 1999, the BHP Steel Mining iron sand mining contract at Taharoa from 1999 to 2001, and the Solid Energy Strongman 2 opencast coal mine contract north of Greymouth from 2001 to 2003.

From 2003 to 2009 Rangi completed 6 years as Project Manager on the DHML Stockton Mine opencast mining contract. He then managed the Reddale Coal Mine contract from 2011 to 2014, the Sumner Road contract from 2016 to 2018, and all Stockton Mine contracts until late 2021.

Since 2000 Rangi has managed projects with a combined value of over $400M.

Rangi holds the National Diploma in Extractive Industries Management – Surface Extraction, A-Grade Quarry & Coal Mine Manager Certificates of Competence, and National Certificates in Civil Construction Works Supervision & Extractive Industries Operations. He completed mine management training with NZ Caterpillar dealership Gough Gough & Hamer in 2006, and leadership and management training with Leadership Management Australasia in 2007.

Rangi was appointed to the position of General Manager on the retirement of Kevin Davies in October 2021.
